The hurricane season commences in June, which means it is time to think about wind damage. Strong winds result in billions of dollars in damage annually, even in places out of the hurricane zone. To decrease the amount of damage a storm can inflict, there are a few things that homeowners can do:

•          Find all items that can come loose or blow away in high winds and ensure that they are secured. This includes tools, toys, patio furniture, portable grills, and trash cans.
•          Ensure that gates are closed securely and repair all loose fence boards.
•          Check your trees for unhealthy branches or overhanging the house and have them removed.
•          Quickly repair all loose shutters, shingles, and siding.
